# Engine cue/loop colors are off

**Lexicon version** : 1.11.10
**Operating system (remove one)**: Windows 11
**Bug description** :
The colors of hot cues and loops when exporting to Engine are off.
Instead of having nice vibrant colors on the pads, you get weird pale tones that are hard to see. (using a Denon SC Live 4 in my case)
Exporting to Engine Desktop and re-selecting the colors there does fix it.
When overwriting the Lexicon colors with Engine Desktop ones:
-Green stays the same.
-Red changes to magenta. (Why? It’s because that’s why, thanks Denon 🤷)
-Orange stays the same.
-Yellow becomes more vibrant (and closer to orange 🥲).
-Cyan becomes less vibrant.
-All pinks become more vibrant.
-All blues become more vibrant.
For testing, I re-imported the Engine database into Lexicon, and some of the colors it picked are the same as the original I had picked. (though as seen, they were wrong on the controller pads)
**Step by step to reproduce** :
Pick colors in Lexicon, export to either Engine Desktop or USB, colors are off.
Open Engine Desktop while the SC Live 4 is connected to the computer (but in standalone, not computer mode), select the computer as a source, edit colors in Engine Desktop and see them change in real time on the pads.

Adding as a reply cause I didn’t wanna clutter the main post:
I have to say I don’t know if it’s actually a bug or just a limitation of Lexicon.
If it is a limitation, it would be nice to have a color mapping setting where you can tell what color to change to when exporting to specific platforms. That way you could -with some trial and error- find the colors that work and look good on the pads. (and also avoid some of the terrible color choices made by Denon)

Did you enable the “Change to nearest color” on sync? Maybe the SC doesnt support them and reverts to a different color

I have, with it off it doesn’t set any colors, as expected.
The SC Live 4 does support the colors, and even though they’re not part of Engine DJ’s palette, Engine does keep them. You can tell they’re the correct colors, they just don’t translate well to these RGB pads.
I don’t know how it works internally, but I assume the program has a list of Engine supported colors that it checks against? Having the colors go to the standard 8 Engine colors would be helpful. As someone with impaired vision, I rely on colors a lot to know what things do.
Should I make a feature request instead for customizable color mappings?
Since I’m not even sure this can be considered a bug.

Yeah it’s a bit of a strange issue.. But you used the Target Drive option to go from Lexicon directly to your SC? In that case the nearest color option should probably make sure it uses Engine compatible colors

Yes I usually exported to the card directly, but also Engine desktop to do the replacement test
