Dynamic integration with Spotify

Hello!

What is the feature or ability you would like to have?

My idea here is to have a “dynamic” (not sure if it’s the right qualifier) integration with spotify.

  • We can access the full spotify account to see all the playlists (something like soundiiz)
  • The import playlist from spotify keeps the link so that we can refresh it to pull new songs added to the spotify playlist.
  • Duplicates between playlists are treated as the same song (I think this is already the case with the import function)

How will this feature help you and others?

I organize my spotify the same way I organize my rekordbox. Songs that I put in playlists represent what would be a track I own and which I tag accordingly on RB. (so for ex I have have a minimal - groovy playlist in spotify and a mingroov tag on RB for those tracks)

I have 50+ playlists on spotify, and copying and pasting the link each time I need to do this operation is quite tedious. It would be a great time saver if I can tag all songs within a spotify playlist hosted on Lexicon (so a spotify track that I own) with its appropriate tag. Extra points if this can be done through recipes on a rule based system (if here and X then tag A, tag b)

Is this feature available in an existing product? If so, what product?

There’s a similar function offered by soundiiz (https://soundiiz.com/) where I can access all my playlists across all my music platforms and transfer them between.

Does a workaround currently exist?

Yes, manually importing each spotify playlist, then doing the track matching, then creating a new lexicon playlist. Tedious which I don’t mind, but not dynamic (updates using the same spotify link)

Thanks a lot!

This makes Lexicon too dependant on Spotify and they aren’t in the DJ game so not looking to add something so complex based on them.

Hopefully in the future I can add a good Tidal integration that could solve problems like this, but it won’t happen for Spotify. But if we have this for Tidal, you could keep Tidal and Spotify in sync with soundizz or similar.

Hey Christiaan

Gotcha! Absolutely understand the dependency issue and a tidal workaround would definitely work.

Then, would the next best alternative be having a way to keep the links that make track-mathched playlists persistent? and have some kind of refresh button? across all possible sources I mean.

So this would “just” automatically bypapss the search and save the playlist steps, and “just” go directly to automatically adding new tracks (not a software programmer so don’t know how complicated this is!)

I’m sure this would be of broad general interest for those using the track-matching function, I don’t think I’m the only one who keeps feeding playlists rather than creating ad hoc ones to match, so I’m sure this function would be a killer!

Thanks,

I don’t think this is a very common use case since you appear to have your primary library in Spotify, while most people would have it in Lexicon or maybe a DJ app. I assume you have local files for your tracks to play them so perhaps it makes sense to (also) have a local library?

yeah, I think you’re right! just wanted to postpone the manual process of going through it all till I was sure there was no quicker alternative.

Awesome thanks for the help Christiaan!
