I have a bunch of files that have been copied and converted to a different format resulting in duplication with the same track existing twice with different extensions . for example mytrack.wav has been copied and converted to mytrack.m4a. Is there a way to find and highlight these and then be able to delete all the ones with the ‘old’ extension, eg .wav?
If you have them in Lexicon they will likely have the same artist & title tags so you can run the Find Duplicates utility.
If you don’t have them in Lexicon yet, you can just drag them in.
If artist & titles are not a perfect match but filename is (other than extension), you can follow this trick: How do I use the track filename as my title?
After that, use the Extract Artist From Title smartfix on all tracks. This should give you something to work with in the Find Duplicates utility.
I’m currently converting all my FLAC’s to mp3 because djay pro apple music etc, and I’m having to manually check every individual duplicate to mp3 because the ‘prefer’ settings doesn’t allow you to prefer by filetype. could we get more detailed control settings for the duplicate detector?
You can use the Copy Field recipe to copy the filetype to Extra1, then use that with the Prefer popup
