Lexicon version: Version 1.7.1 Operating system (remove one): Mac
Bug description: I have been manually updating released Year + Genre tags for some of my trax as the ‘Find tags and album art’ sometimes returns wrong release dates or genre. Lexicon keeps overriding the changes - or does not save them - and when reopening the software the metadata is reset and manual changes are lost.
Please note all of my trax are bought via Beatport/iTunes so I think there is some metadata that Lexicon is not able to remove completely. Normally I use the ‘Find tags and album art’ to see if i can get the right release year and genre.
Step by step to reproduce: Manually override x amount of tracks release year and/or genere. Close Lexicon. Reopen lexicon. look for the same trax and see if the changes have been stored/saved or reset to default.
That is for ID3 tags and Lexicon only reads those when you first add tracks to your library or when you use Reload Tags. If you are reloading tags then it makes sense it resets.
If you change year/genre in your library (so without writing to ID3) and then restart Lexicon and they are back to old year/genre, that is very weird.
This is exacly the issue (bug) I have experienced. I override year, genre etc on the track by double clicking on the specific ID fied, but somehow this change is not retain. Not on all tracks but some. I am not sure how to exactly reproduce the bug, but i have been monitoring certain tracks that were updated with a different release year or genre lexicon was suggesting but somehow when checked again a few days later it is reverted back.
Hi Christiaan, I will keep a close eye on this and update you accordingly. As far as I can see the changes are maintained - but I will let you know if anything changes. Please don’t close this bug yet.
I did this process of finding the year of the songs, but every time I finished it, I made sure to write the TAG before closing the Lexicon to make sure the year was actually recorded.
As suspected I found so many tracks that I manually changed the release date or music genre been reverted back to what Lexicon wants. Highly frustrated about this bug - I am now taking the habit of execute the write TAG to file although it does seem as an “extra-should-not-be-needed” step…and can only hope this works!
As far as I am aware it is mostly manual changes that are not retained! In this case my changes are mostly release year and music genre. I keep seeing tracks disappearing from folders for specific decades because the manual change is not retained - unless you do the extra step of ‘write tags to file’?
It looks like when a session ends (quit lexicon) and re-open it the manual change are lost. I work on macbook pro running on Sonoma 14.6.1
I meant smartlists that i built with rules (ie release year or musical genre) where lexicon should automatically allocate a track that falls in any of these rules.
Can you try making a change on any track, then go into a random playlist, then back to that track. Did it keep the changes or revert? Because changing playlist should always reload from the database. It would be quite weird if that does keep the change but a Lexicon restart does not.
