Reorganizing Music Folder Structure

Hi Christiaan,

Hope you’re doing well. I wanted to get your advice on a library housekeeping task before I make any major moves.

Currently, all of my music files are buried under:
PORTABLE 4T (J:)\MUSIC\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music

I no longer use iTunes and would like to clean things up by moving all my actual music folders up to:
PORTABLE 4T (J:)\MUSIC

My goal is to eliminate the extra layers (iTunes\iTunes Media) entirely. Before I do this, I want to make sure there’s a safe way to execute this kind of structural change without breaking anything inside Lexicon (file paths, library metadata, etc.).

Is there a recommended way to perform a bulk path update in Lexicon to reflect the new folder structure? Or should I handle this a different way to preserve my existing library integrity?

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your guidance here.

Best,

Joe

The best way to do that is to let Lexicon do the moving. You can do that by sending your tracks to the Incoming screen first, then set a Target Folder to J:\Music and then press All Done.

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti2P5JPLzSw

I have thousands of songs and my fear is breaking something.
I’ve used the “Incoming Screen” and it is definitely clean and I do like and use it when importing new songs… but my fear is to add my entire library and somehow something breaks and there’s no undo.

That fear can be alleviated with backups

Touche Touche… lol. I will brave through it and yes “backups” is the plan. Thanks as always Christiaan!
