Engine DJ’s playlists are a mess

Ah, okay.

I haven’t studied it through and through, but on the first look it seems to work! Now I have to re-import the track information (and then sync again) and that will take a while. I’ll let you know tomorrow. Thanks for now!!!

To happy to soon. Syncing went well. Re-importing track information also. Syncing again after that is taking more than six hours now.

I aborted the process and looked at the result in Engine DJ. Playlists seemed to be alright, Tried syncing again. Again it went to 99% pretty fast and stucked to that. Aborted again. Updated Lexicon (because that didn’t seem to be the problem). Tried to sync again. Same problem.

At 99% it starts to write all the playlists and all the playlist contents. It’s still weird that it’s so slow for you, but it does look like it is still doing something. I’ll try syncing your library again.

Okay, do you need databases or something?

Tried yours again on my macbook but it takes about 3 minutes to sync. This is an M1 macbook so maybe it’s faster than yours but by no means should it take 6 hours…

I still think the slowness is hardware related…

By hardware you mean the external drives? I use a different one now, makes no difference. And the process was faster than this after I stopped analyzing tracks in Engine DJ.

And I don’t know if it is important: but during the process Lexicon seems to ‘freeze’. Clicking on ‘next tip’doesn’t work, for example. This only happens after 99%. But the Lexicon-logo keeps moving.

Yes the logo always moves but it’s normal that the rest freezes. That has to do with stability so there is less chance of bad things happening.

At 99% it looks like it is very busy with the playlists. Before 99% it is exporting tracks so I don’t think track analyzing has to do with the current slow export.

Is the empty playlist thing still happening? Or can’t you test that now because of the slow speed?

That’s one of the strange things. As I told you I aborted the process this morning after all these hours. The playlists seemed to be alright (on first sight, I just checked some playlists that went wrong before). Could it be the process got into a loop just before it would have finished? In another topic I read something about a tracks that was supposed to have a bpm of 10.000 and that caused the sync to loop. Could it be something like that? The sync you ran must have been from an old datbase of mine, I didn’t send you one recently, I think (?). Now I’m running a sync again and I’m planning not to stop it before it finishes by itself.

Yeah it was an old database. You can send me a new one and I’ll test it again.

Done.

Did you cancel your last syncs or force stop LXC? They look fast but I didn’t see the moment where it gets stuck in the logs

Yeah I did. Sorry, should have said. It’s running again now. I’ll upload the database if it’s ready. I guess that will be tonight or tomorrow. If it’s not ready by tomorrow, I guess it will never be :frowning:

If I can see the logs after that sync (hopefully it finishes) then I know where to add more logging and I can send you a special version to try and pinpoint it further. I’m afraid it will take a few more slow syncs though

Okay. My workaround is to work in Engine DJ (not as smooth as Lexicon) and then sync to Lexicon. If I need a synced Engine DJ-drive, I just copy the database for now. (Via CCC.)

I want to add to this since I found a bit of a workaround.

Notice how in the screenshot above, my Bass House playlist has almost 600 tracks. But in the screenshot below (in Lexicon), it only has around 20 tracks.

The current workaround to this is to sync the full library to Engine DJ as normal, then go back to Lexicon, specifically select my “Bass” playlist, then re-sync JUST that playlist. The playlist will be correct, however the master crate Club House still will not show every song in the sub-crates. There are actually a few master crates that won’t show every song in the crate. I’ve only noticed the Bass crate being completely incorrect so far. I’m on version 1.1.15 on MacOS Mojave.

Did you try removing the Engine DJ databases and make a fresh sync? (And save them under a different name.) If that doesn’t work, you can always put the databases back where they belong.

@Christiaan: The sync finally completed! I think it took about ten hours. I have send the log and database.
