bit of an odd issue using Nuo-stems. I convert some files in the program and send them to LXC watch folder. I then process as normal incoming files and sync with Traktor. For some reason doing it this way Traktor doesnt see the newly added tracks as stem tracks. if I add the tracks directly into Traktor it works.
Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?
Using 1.8.1 LXC
What kind of files are those? Lexicon handles normal audio files so could be Lexicon just ignores them
Lexicon doesn’t ignore them, it adds it to Traktor it’s just that Traktor then only sees it as a ‘normal’ m4a track rather than as a stem track. If I delete the track from lexicon and just drag it into Traktor manually it sees it as a stem track. So it definitely looks like LXC is doing something when syncing to prevent Traktor from properly identifying the track as a stems track.
NB…stem tracks are m4a containers with 4 separate tracks, the drums, bass, ‘other’ and Vox split out.
Just to add some more detail…I also tried:
- deleting from Lexicon collection
- delete from Traktor collection
- manual add (drag/drop) back in to Traktor collection and add to a test playlist and confirm it is seen as a stem track
- sync playlist from Traktor to LXC
- sync playlist from LXC to Traktor
- confirm that the track is now loaded as a standard track, not a stem track
so its not just the initial sync to Traktor that breaks things, its any subsequent with an already existing stem track too.
Let me know if you want me to share an example stem file
Can you send me one of those stem files? You can upload with this link: http://upload.lexicondj.com
done. thanks
have you been able to verify/reproduce this behaviour?
Should be fixed in 1.8.2, let me know if you have any problems with it
I’m afraid the issue remains.
were you able to replicate the issue with the files I sent and verify the fix?
Yes I did fix the issue, at least in my testing with your file. If your track has stems in Traktor and you sync from LXC to Traktor, it should keep the stems now.
In my testing I still have the same issue. If I sync from Lexicon to Traktor the track is only seen as normal ‘non stem’ track. If I delete it from Traktor and manually add directly the same file shows as a stem track in Traktor.
Not quite sure what you mean by ‘if your track has stems in Traktor’? My workflow is the track does not exist in Traktor and I have created a Traktor compatible stem file using the external tool Nuo-Stems (which has specifically tight Traktor integration). I then import this into Lexicon and then sync to Traktor. Following this process the track doesn’t show as a stems file in Traktor, but it does if I import directly into Traktor without using Lexicon.
Hm okay I think the problem is that Lexicon does not know it is a stems file in the first place. So it can’t add that stems info.
If you drag the tracks into Traktor before the sync, the stems info should be maintained after a sync.
That doesn’t work either. As before, going in reverse Traktor > Lexicon and then back again and the track isn’t seen as a stem. in other words, starting with a stemmed track in Traktor, as soon as it goes via Lexicon it looses whatever it is that tells Traktor its a stem track
and just for absolute clarity, in case its not already clear, Im not talking about Traktor 4’s native stem capability, Im talking about stems that have been created outside of Traktor which is a capability its had for years. Traktor 4’s inbuilt stem feature creates a separate stem file and links it to the original file, so there are 2 ‘copies’ of the file, but 1 entry in the collection.
I just dragged your m4a into Traktor and loaded it into the player, those are the stems I was using.
I tested it in 2 ways:
- Add to Traktor, import & sync back to Traktor. Stems are still there (that already worked before).
- Add to Traktor & add to Lexicon, then sync to Traktor (so never did an import). Stems are still there (that didn’t work before but does now)
What am I missing there?
Seems very similar, but to be clear I:
- add to Lexicon, sync to traktor - doesn’t work
And 2) add to traktor (works), sync to lexicon, sync to traktor - doesn’t work
Before the 2nd test I deleted from traktor to start ‘clean’. Both scenarios don’t work in same way as before.
The second test seems closer to what you’ve tried, but can’t be 100% sure from you’re description, but if so at a loss as to why I can’t get it to work.
The first one won’t work, Lexicon doesn’t have that info so I can’t change that.
The second sounds like what I did.
Can you send me your Traktor NML file before (when stems are showing) and after the sync (broken) ?
The NML file is here: Documents/Native Instruments/Traktor 4../collection.nml
You can upload with this link: http://upload.lexicondj.com
And use the same m4a you sent me please so I know which it is.
I’ve uploaded a working nml after importing into tractor. However, what Im now seeing is that lexicon is not importing the stem files at all.
I have created a ‘Lexicon test’ playlist with 3 tracks in it, the original file I sent, another stem track and finally a standard aiff file that Traktor has generated its own stems on. The only file that shows in Lexicon after doing an import and selecting just this playlist is the aiff file. Both m4a stem files are not added to the Lexicon playlist or the collection at all.
This is different behaviour than before.
